About Of Programme

Department of Journalism trains students as future professional employees for media organizations. The department is one of the major sources of communication discipline, and of Communication Faculties. It aims to train communication experts (such as journalist, photojournalist, communication adviser, public relation specialist, editor etc.). Journalism education and department’s curriculum contributes to democratisation processes of society, and helps people to internalize critical thinking. By including particular disciplines related to social science to its curriculum, such as sociology, cultural studies, politics, economics, psychology, linguistics and so on, it provides a multidisciplinary approach. Thus, people who are graduates of this programme develop a humanitarian understanding towards communication discipline and practice those values in their professional lives. The Department approach to journalism education and communication issues within both national and international levels. Considering communication right as one of the main human rights, it aims to train students who respect vocational ethical codes. The programme is designed to provide a learning environment free from any form of discrimination against any person on the basis of race, colour, religion, sex, gender, age, national or ethnic origin, citizenship or immigration status etc. Therefore, by taking a leading role to enhance journalism/media field, and to develop new approaches and trends, the Department equip students with a universal understanding of scientific research, firstly in journalism field, and also in media/communication discipline. It aims to open communication problems/issues up for discussion on the scientific bases, offers solutions to those issues, and presents new communication techniques.

Program Discriptions and Details

Department of Journalism aims to train students as future professional employees for all kind of media organizations. Students receive training in fundamentals of research, reporting, writing, and presentation, along with strong social-scientific, humanistic and theoretical instruction. Curriculum is designed to teach organizational structures of media organizations to students, and to create awareness about the political economy of media organizations/institutions. As journalism education is one of the main disciplines of communication/media field, the department equips students to be well-rounded professionals and citizens who respects equal rights, and enable them to contribute to the democratic institutions of society. Seeing human rights and ethical codes as main values in the process of producing news-reporting and knowledge disseminating process, Department of Journalism focuses on a university education transferring these values/approaches to students. Therefore, the programme offers not only vocational courses but also courses that gear students who can sustain all kind of communication process successfully, and preserve human dignity, and free from any form of discriminating actions. Main target of the Department of Journalism, together with its multidisciplinary course contents, is to cover communication/media issues in Turkey. Important notice: Journalism Department of Communication Faculty, Çukurova University has launched the Bachelor´s degree programme in 2017-2018 fall semesters. Accordingly, the second, third and fourth year courses appearing on this programme will be activated in the 2018-2019 and 2019-2020 and 2020-2021 academic years respectively.
