Goals
The purpose is understanding soil formation processes and classifying soils according to world wide used soil classification systems. Soil determined in the laboratory and important physical and chemical properties in terms of classification, understanding soil forming factors,Pedogenic soil forming processes and Identifying Soil Taxonomic class according to Soil Classification System.
Content
Important morphological, physical and chemical properties of soil, profile description in field, weathering processes, soil forming factors, pedological soil forming processes, basic principles of soil classification, 1938 USDA Soil Classification System, Soil Taxonomy, FAO/UNESCO World Soil Legend.

Learning Outcomes
1) Defines and identifies morphological properties and the symbols of soils horizons in the field.
2) Evaluates some physical and chemical properties of soil determinated in the lab, in terms of soil forming and classification.
3) Understands how a soil profile can be characterized by soil forming factors such as; parent material, topography, vegetation, climate and time.
4) Understands and interprets soil forming processes undergoing in the soil profiles.
5) Knows the principals and kind of soil classification systems.
6) Understands the principles and rules of the widely used soil classification systems such as 1938 USDA Soil classification system and Soil Taxonomy Identifies Soil Taxonomic class by using these classification systems.
