Goals
This class will focus on important personalities and significant movements beginning with the transformation of Europe during Renaissance and ending with the opening of the First World War. We will examine features of the Middle Ages such as the presence of warfare, the construction of religious faiths, philosophy, political choices, and the dilemmas of womens choices.
Content
This course will provide an overview of diplomatic history, starting from the fifteenth century. It focuses on alliances, wars and their causes, treaties and agreements and other events, organizations and documents of importance to understanding world relations during the past 400 years.

Learning Outcomes
1) Obtains information about the Renaissance era.
2) Learns the social and religious background of the Reformation.
3) Learns how the Reformation affected the whole of Europe.
4) Learns the causes and effects of The Thirty Years' War.
5) Learns the causes and effects of The English Civil War.
6) Learns the characteristics of the absolute rule.
7) Obtains information about the rise of Prussian and the Russian Empires as important powers.
8) Obtains information about the changing views of the universe.
9) Obtains information about the enlightened ideas.
10) Obtains information about the expansion of the Enlightenment.
11) Obtains information about the causes and effects of the French Revolution.
12) Obtains information about Napoleon's rise to power and his policies.
13) Obtains information about the causes and effects of the Industrial Revolution.
14) Obtains information about the post-Napoleonic Settlement and the restoration of Europe.
15) Obtains information about the 1848 Revolutions and their contribution to the national unification process.
