Goals
The main purpose of this course is to examine the origins and development of contemporary political concepts such as power, state, freedom, justice, equality and legitimacy.
Content
This course surveys major thinkers in Western Political theory from the ancient Greek to the nineteenth century.

Learning Outcomes
1) Learns the basic points of the Ancient Greek political thought.
2) Obtains information about the political thought of Socrates and Plato.
3) Obtains information about Aristotle and the introduction of political science.
4) Obtains information about the political thought of Saint Augustine.
5) Obtains information about the political thought of Saint Thomas Aquinas.
6) Learns the advices given by Machiavelli to rulers in his well-known book, The Prince.
7) Learns the social contract theory and obtains information about the Hobbesian version.
8) Learns the social contract theory and obtains information about the Lockian version.
9) Learns the social contract theory and obtains information about the Rousseauist version.
10) Learns the changes in political thinking during the Enlightenment period.
11) Obtains information about the American Enlightenment.
12) Obtains information about the reactions against the enlightened thought.
13) Learns the rise of liberal thought.
14) Obtains information about the political thought of Friedrich Hegel.
15) Learns Marxism and other socialisms.
