Goals
Knowledge about mineralogy, optical mineralogy and crystallography will be given to students. The student will learn how to determine crystal systems, the minerals in thin sections under the microscope and contribute to the other geological courses.
Content
Crystals and crystal systems, minerals,optical mineralogy, learning these minerals theoretical and practically.

1) Attain familiarity with the moving patrs of a petrographic microscope
2) Understand optical theory pertaining to transmission of light through isotropicand anisotropic minerals
3) Utilize optical properties to identify common rock forming minerals in grain mounts and the section.
