Course Goal

To introduce students to modern power semiconductors and their characteristics, to show the structures and working principles of AC-DC, DC-DC and DC-AC converters, to comprehend the pulse width modulation technique.

Course Content

Characteristics of modern power semiconductors, trends. Power integrated circuits. AC-DC converters; unit power factor converters. DC-DC converters; switched power converters, resonant converters, DC-AC converters; Inverter with current and voltage supply. Pulse width modulation techniques. Motor drivers and control methods. Thermal effects in power electronics. Protection of power semiconductors.
