Course Goal

This course aims to provide a general and comprehensive overview of the history of cinema. Cinema art and industry is examined with historical, geographical, cultural, technical and critical dimensions.

Course Content

Within the scope of this course, the emergence of cinema as a technological development, industry and art, its transformation into a cultural and social device and its current progress will be presented in a historical perspective. In addition, a connection is established between developments in the field of cinema in different geographies and social structures. In this context, along with the historical development of the cinema, changes in the cinematic tools such as narrative structure, cinematography, mise-en-scene, sound and editing are also examined.

LO04 to develop an understanding of the language and terminology of the film, and to understand how this language builds meaning and ideology.
LO05 to examine cinema as an art and industry, to acquire knowledge of production, distribution and exhibition practices.
LO06 to gain the ability to make sense of the current cinema industry in the context of cause-effect relationship with the knowledge gained in the history of cinema.
