Course Goal / Objective
To explain students how to deal with exploration of fossil fuels and to explain their characteristics and importance in the earth crust.
Course Content
Introduction, fuels as an energy source on the earth, general classification of the fuels, general information about petroleum, Physical and chemical properties of petroleum, discussion on formation and origin of petroleum, reservoir rock and its properties, migration of petroleum, petroleum traps and petroleum occurrences in various basins, hydrocarbon exploration, petroleum and natural gas, exploration method. General information about coals, physical and chemical properties of coals, coal classification, peat formation, coalification, coal beds, coal petrography, bituminous and lignite beds in Türkiye, exploration method, bituminous shale and asphaltits.
