Feature & Definition

Our department, which is one of the first three departments established in the Faculty of Agriculture in 1970, is stated in Çukurova where is an orchard paradise by its location and it is a region where all kinds of temperate climate and subtropical fruit products are widely cultivated with modern growing techniques both under field and protected cultivation. There are many suitable ecological conditions for the cultivation, collection and researches of a large number of fruit, vineyard, vegetable and ornamental plants species and varieties whether on Çukurova or on the Toros Plateau. Since these facilities are equipped with modern laboratories, growth chambers, greenhouses, cold storage warehouses, gardening and cultivation tools and machines, students will be educated under better conditions than many of the other horticulture departments of the world. Scientific studies are being carried out in the department by a sufficient number of specialized and highly qualified academic staff (17 professors and 4 associate professors) in the subjects such as reproduction of horticultural plants, cultivation and breeding, post-harvest and storage, biotechnology and organic farming. In this context, in addition to practical studies in order to solve the problems of the growers in this region, there are many scientific studies being carried out together with both national and international universities and research institutes and the results of these researches are published in prestigious scientific journals. In addition, student exchanges have been carried out with the Horticultural Departments in many countries under the ERASMUS program.
