General Information
The Department of Turkish Language and Literature was established in 1982. Since then about 1000 students have been graduated from the department. The department conducts both graduate and undergraduate programs and consists of six divisions namely Old Turkish Literature, Contemporary Turkish Literature, Turkish Folk Literature, Turkic Dialects and Their Literatures, Contemporary Turkish Language and Old Turkish Language. Relating these devisions, various subjects are taught at the department introducing the characteristics and the richness of Turkish language, literature and the culture. The historical evaluation of Turkish language has been surveyed by means of literary specimens and the emphasis is given to reading habits and skills. In order to complete the four-year undergraduate program, students are supposed to complete 240 ECTS credits with a total GPA of at least 2.00/4.00.

The Department of Turkish Language and Literature was established in 1982. Inıtially, the department consisted of two sub-departments, Turkish Language and Turkish Literature, but with the increase in number of teaching staff, the academic structure of the department improved and the number of divisions raised to 6 sub-departtments. The department started accepting students in 1986, four years after it was established who graduated in 1990. In te end of the four-year (eight-semester) undergraduate program, the students needs to be successful from 120 credits with a total GPA of at least 2.00/4.00. Our department has started offering evening education in the 1996-1997 academic year.

Goals
Cukurova University, the Faculty of Science and Literature, Department of Turkish Language and Literature, purposes to examinate development, characteristics, grammatical and literary features, the past and present problems of Turkish Language and Literature and to reveal their causes at the process from the earliest periods of Turkish language and literature. Examines the basic qualities and periods of Turkish language and literature, the formation and development process of Turkish culture, the cultural contacts in this process and the results of these contacts.
Objectives
The basic aim of the Turkish Language and Literature Department is to understand the periods of Turkish Language and Literature and the qualities they hold during these periods, the ways of studying literary texts, to know the power of expression, to understand the process of Turkish culture development and the foundation process of Turkish Republic, connected, beautiful and correct speaking, writing skills.
Specific Admission Requirements
Placement through a centralized national university placement examination (ÖSYS). Student Selection and Placement Centre (ÖSYM) is responsible to place students according to their ÖSYS scores.
Qualification Awarded
The students who have successfully accomplished this program gain the bachelor´s degree of Turkish Language and Literature.

Access to Further Studies
The graduates of this program are eligible to apply for admission to graduate studies in same field or related areas if they pass the evaluation process designated according to the regulations of "Çukurova University Graduate Education and Examination Committee", which includes ALES, general point of average, and the interview.

Double Major, Additional Major & Exchange Possibilities
In the Turkish Language and Literature Program, a different diploma cannot be obtained as a result of opportunities such as integrated, double major and minor.
Employment Opportunities
Students who graduate from our department can work as lecturers and lecturers in various universities if they improve themselves academically. In addition, our graduates teach in public and private schools; they can work as editors in publishing houses.
