General Information

The aim of our psychology undergraduate program is understanding the mechanisms that underlie the thoughts, feelings, and behaviours of people. Undergraduate program is based on Scientist-Practioner Model that is integration of science and practice. In this model, knowledge of major psychological concepts, theories, and empirical findings are demonstrated in addition the ability to apply psychological concepts and theories to research and real life situations are acquired. In general, this program is designed to prepare psychologists to function at basic level in major subfields of psychology such as developmental psychology, social psychology, experimental psychology and clinical psychology.

The aim of the undergraduate program in psychology is to train psychologists that can provide benefits to people about their expertise in relevant areas and that know himself and other people beter. Psychology is the science of mind, brain and behavior. Psychology is a multifaceted discipline and includes many sub-fields of study such areas as human development, physiological psychology, industrial psychology, experimental psychology, sports psychology, health psychology,, clinical psychology, neuropsychology, cognitive neuroscience, social psychology, educational psychology, cognitive and behavioral psychology. Consequently, the program serves many areas of psychology. The purpose of the Psychology Department is the completion of the infrastructure required for training in all sub-areas of specialization.

Goals

The aim of the Psychology Undergraduate Program is to train people who know themselves and other people better and who can benefit from their expertise in the related fields. Psychology education in our department is based on the an Scientist-Practitioner Model İn based on the integration of science and practice. This model aims to educate students both as scientists who produce knowledge and as practitioners who use this knowledge in practice. The most important feature of the Scientist-Practitioner Model is that it is sensitive to expectations and requirements in real life and has the flexibility to carry them to the world of science by research. Psychology is a basic branch of science that covers a wide range of research areas, ranging from biology to self, community and culture. The areas of psychology that are directly related to health are ”clinical psychology“, ”neuropsychology“, ”psychopharmacology“ and health psychology However, many other areas of psychology fall outside the direct health care such as industrial-organizational psychology, “social psychology”, “developmental psychology”, “experimental psychology”, "psychometry ”, "school psychology”, forensic psychology and “traffic psychology. The number of areas where the knowledge of psychology is applied is increasing and new ones are added to these areas of expertise. As a result, the psychology program serves many areas. The aim of the psychology department is to complete the infrastructure training required for specialization in all sub-areas.

Objectives

The aim of the program is to educate qualified psychologists who have a scientific perspective that can relate the knowledge of psychology obtained from the program in to work in the application and research fields of psychology with all aspects of life. In our program, we are working to educate qualified psychologists who have a multidisciplinary perspective, who are aware of their competencies and limitations, who are aware of their competences and limitations, who are willing to develop life-long developments by following the new developments in the field and the knowledge of contemporary psychology.

Specific Admission Requirements

Students must obtain a grade point average of at least 2.00 out of 4.00 and successfully pass all courses on the programme (equivalent to a total of 240 ECTS).

The students who have successfully accomplished this program gain the bachelor’s degree of Psychology.

Students graduated from psychology departments have chances to work in very broad and various areas. Our graduates can work in government hospitals, clinics, rehabilitation centers, nursery schools, social services, family courts, human resources departments, dialysis centers, nursing homes, private schools, psychotechnic evaluation centers, industrial establishments, advertising companies. Psychology graduates can work at schools as guidance and counselling teachers if they receive a teaching certificate. Furthermore, graduates may pursue an academic career by taking up scientific study at universities (at Master’s and Doctorate levels).

Internship

Psychology Programme students are carrying out their compulsory or optional internships to learn and experience the areas of psychology according to their own interests and future expactations under the supervising of internship coordinator. To enlarge our internship pool, we are going through with partners in many different areas considering our students needs and proposals. Social security instution negotiated internship lasts one month.
