General Information

Cukurova University, Institute of Natural Sciences Textile Engineering Department began its educational activities in 1993-1994 academic year. It began M.Sc. education in spring semester of 1993-1994 also gives PhD Education beginning from autumn semester of 2002-2003. 135 Masters and 54 PhD students have graduated till 2025 years.

Feature & Definition

The PhD of science program enables the student to gain the ability to access, evaluate and interpret information by doing scientific research. This program consists of at least 7 courses, seminar and thesis studies. All the courses in the program are elective and they are taken according to the supervisor's suggestions.

Goals

Graduates; -They internalize the basic information in the field of textile engineering. -They can follow technological and scientific innovations in the field of textile engineering. -They can design textile products and processes. -They can contribute to interdisciplinary teamwork.

Objectives

Taking into account the requirements of the textile industry, our department aims to train the engineers with the qualifications parallel to the expectations of the industrialists. The program also aims to enable its graduates to have strong basic knowledge, know how to access information, renew themselves, become a researcher, with an analytical frame of mind, to be capable of synthesizing, understanding of professional ethics and become engineers who can easily communicate with their surroundings, and who are also responsible and productive.

Specific Admission Requirements

In order to graduate from this programme, the students are required to successfully complete all the courses with a minimum average grade point of 3.00 out of 4.00.

Qualification Awarded

The students who have successfully accomplished this program gain the Doctorate degree of Textile Engineering.

Qualification Requirements of Graduation

This program consists of at least seven courses, seminar work and thesis work. The courses in the program are distributed as compulsory and elective and are taken by the student according to the recommendations of the advisor. The PhD program in the department includes at least seven courses, seminar, proficiency exam, thesis proposal and 4 semesters of thesis work, with a minimum of twenty-one credits. The program ends with the defense of the PhD thesis. The course “Scientific Research Techniques and Publication Ethics” is a compulsory course and can be taken in the fall or spring semesters and has been included in the course credit load by the decision of the Institute of Science. In addition, the courses “Development and Learning” and “Planning and Evaluation in Teaching” are also compulsory courses in this program. At most two of the courses can be selected from the courses in the active Education plan belonging to the master's degree. Exams in the program are held within the framework of the "Ç.Ü. Postgraduate Education, Teaching and Exam Regulation". For those who apply to the Integrated Doctorate program (with a Bachelor's degree), it is to complete 300 ECTS credits (including at least fourteen courses with forty-two credits, a seminar, a proficiency exam, a thesis proposal and 4 semesters of thesis work). A doctoral student who successfully completes the program is given the title of "Doctor".

Access to Further Studies

Graduates who succesfully completed doctorate degree may apply to both in the same or related disciplines in higher education institutions at home or abroad to get a position in academic staff or to governmental R&D centres to get expert position.
