General Information

Çukurova University Institute of Social Sciences Islamic History and Arts Program includes the sub-fields of Islamic History, History of Turkish-Islamic Arts, Turkish-Islamic Literature and Turkish Religious Music. Candidates who will receive education in this program are expected to be researchers who can conduct national and international research in the branches related to Islamic History and Arts within scientific criteria; to be able to evaluate the information obtained at the academic level and to produce new ones from the evaluated information; to be researchers with the attitude and behavior to share the scientific results they have reached with their stakeholders within an ethical framework. Currently, PhD degrees can be awarded in Islamic History and Turkish Islamic Literature. As soon as possible, this degree will also be offered in Turkish Islamic Arts and Turkish Religious Music. The language of education and training of the program is Turkish.

It is a program that aims to train manpower and researchers who can work on various dimensions of history, art, literature, music, culture and civilization relations that started with humanity and Islam in the field of Islamic History and Arts.

Goals

To train social scientists who have compulsory knowledge about Islamic History, Turkish Islamic Arts, Turkish Islamic Literature and Turkish Religious Music; who can read and understand classical sources; who can establish a connection between the field and other disciplines; who have an understanding of language, history and art thought.

Objectives

Department of Islamic History and Arts, doctoral students; 1. To be able to determine the topics to be researched in the fields of history, art, literature, music related to theology, 2. To be able to identify and access the information sources of the subject to be researched and to collect the data needed, 3. To be able to analyze and evaluate the data obtained in solving the research problem, 4. To be able to conduct research according to scientific criteria and produce usable results, 5. To be able to share scientific results with related people, institutions and organizations, 6. To acquire basic knowledge about political and social issues related to various periods of Islamic history, literature, art and music, 7. To be able to read and understand the texts written in Ottoman Turkish and Arabic letters, including archival documents, 8. Having developed knowledge of Arabic and Persian as well as Turkish, especially in Islamic History researches, and having acquired the qualifications to benefit from the source texts in these languages, 9. To be able to transform his/her achievements into scientific productivity with an academic and critical perspective and to make projections to the present, 10. He prepared a program to equip them with the qualifications to work at the Academy.

Specific Admission Requirements

Those who will be admitted to this program are expected to have a master's degree and to have at least “55” points from the types of exams that are equivalent to exams such as YDS. In addition to these, within the framework of “ÇÜ Graduate Education and Training Regulations”, ALES score, graduation average, written and oral interview exam grades are evaluated together and those who are entitled to enroll are determined according to the average. “Scientific Preparatory Program” is applied to those who are not from the Faculty of Theology, Faculty of Islamic Sciences or the Department of Religious Culture and Moral Knowledge Teaching.

Qualification Awarded

Students who successfully complete this program are awarded a DOCTORATE in Islamic History and Arts (DOCTORATE) diploma and are also accepted as a doctor of the relevant department.

Qualification Requirements of Graduation

At the end of the program, the student defends the graduate thesis in front of the appointed jury members and graduates if found successful. Application and evaluation can be made in the courses and subjects of the department that require artistic and practical skills.

If students choose, they can be subjected to applications in the curriculum of the program on subjects in the field of art.

Employment Opportunities

Graduates They will be able to continue their scientific activities as academicians and find employment opportunities in State Archives and large-scale libraries that hold manuscripts.
