Course Goal / Objective

Learning the phonological, morphological and syntactic features of Old Turkish from the Uyghur Period.

Course Content

The Uyghurs (period of reign, geography, political and administrative structure, belief systems), alphabets used by the Uyghurs, evaluation of the Uyghur language in terms of language properties, general overview of Uyghur literature and introduction to Buddhist Uyghur literature. Discovery of Uyghur texts and studies on the Uyghur language. Phonological and morphological analysis and evaluation on Buddhist Uyghur texts, (Altun Yaru, Good and Bad Prince Story, Buddhist Uyghur poetry and non-religious elements)
