Course Goal / Objective

Making pottery began at least 20 thousand years ago, and the technology became common around the world by 5 thousand years ago. This course gives the student knowledge of the early history of pottery-making, and pottery of Anatolia before the classical period.

Course Content

In its first half, this course reviews early developments of pottery by hunting-gathering, pastoralist and early farming groups in different parts of the world. In its second half the course examines pottery-making in Anatolia from the Neolithic through the Iron Ages.
