Course Goal / Objective

Archaeologists disagree about the goals of archaeology. They also disagree about methods suitable to reaching these goals. This course introduces to students some of the terminological and conceptual arguments about the goals and methods of archaeology.

Course Content

The course asks the question what is archaeology. Different schools of archaeology may use the same terminology, but they have different goals and use different methods. The course discusses different ways in which archaeologists analyze economic, social and belief systems of societies in the past.
