Course Goal / Objective

To provide students with a fundamental background in theoretical and applied rock mechanics with emphasis on problem-solving in rock engineering as well as an ability to conduct laboratory experiments and interpret the results.To teach soil mechanics, the physical and mechanical properties of soils and solve the engineering problems on soil mechanics.

Course Content

Basic descriptions and concepts/ Stresses on the ground/ analysis of stress and strain/ Physical and mechanical properties of rock material and rock mass/ Rock mass classifications/ Rock failure criteria/ Stresses on the underground openings and measurement/ laboratory experiments./ Engineering problems related to soils/concept/Compressibility and consolidation theory/Triaxial compression and shear strength/
