The first semester of the course introduces the natural conditions of Mesopotamia and reviews the prehistoric foundations and early development of the Mesopotamian civilization, to the Early Dynastic period.

Course Content

After describing the geographical and environmental character of Mesopotamia and briefly reviewing the early prehistory (Palaeolithic and aceramic Neolithic) of the region, the course examines the development of Ceramic Neolithic and Chalcolithic cultures and complex societies, with emphasis on the Ubaid and Uruk periods.
