Course Goal / Objective
This course teaches the basic principles of conventional thermodynamics, trains the students to identify formulate and solve engineering problems related to thermodynamics, trains the students to be able to do internal combustion engines thermal solution.
Course Content
Properties of pure substances, phase change, equation of state. Concepts of energy transfer by heat, work and mass. Entropy. 1st and 2nd law of Thermodynamics and their applications to common thermal devices such as heat exchangers, turbines, and compressors. 2nd law analysis. Availability. Basic power and refrigeration thermodynamic cycles. Ideal gas mixtures. Introduction to chemical reactions.
