Course Goal / Objective

Review the archaeology of Cyprus from the first human occupation (10000 BC) to the early Iron Age (900 BC), and examine the changing relations between Cyprus and Anatolia during this time.

Course Content

Cyprus had strong relations with Anatolia and north Syria during the early Aceramic Neolithic period (8800-7000 BC), but became more isolated during later Neolithic and Chalcolithic periods. Strong relations with Anatolia appeared again during the Philia phase (2400-2200 BC), and these relations strengthened during the 2nd millennium when Cyprus took an important part in trade and political relations throughout the eastern Mediterranean. This course examines Cyprus and its relations with Anatolia during these periods.
