Course Goal / Objective

The aim of this course is to introduce students to the topics and necessity of modern physics

Course Content

In this course, Special relativity: time dilation, Doppler Effect, Length contraction, Twin paradox,Relativistic momentum, mass and energy, Lorentz Transformation,Particle Properties of Waves: Electromagnetic Waves, Black Body Radiation, Photoelectric effect, What is light, X-rays, Compton effect, pair production, Photons and gravity, Wave Properties of Particles: De Broglie waves, probability waves, describing a wave, phase and group velocities, particles diffraction Particle in the box, uncertainty principle and applying the uncertainty principle, Atomic Structure: The nuclear atom, Electron orbits, atomic spectra, The Bohr atom, energy levels and spectra, Correspondence principle, nuclear motion,atomic excitation, the laser, Quantum Mechanics: the wave equation: time-dependent form,expectation values, Operators, finite potential well, tunnel effect, Harmonic Oscillator are described.
