Course Goal / Objective

Having knowledge about the nature of the political-creedal sects that rose in the early years of Islam as well as about the general characteristics of the conception of religion within which these sect are founded, and gaining skills of analysis, interpretation and comparison within the field

Course Content

The rise of Ahl al-Sunna; Ashab al-Hadith and Ashab al-Ray; Ashari and Maturidi school; Salafiyya and Wahhabism; Babism and Bahaism; Ahmadiyya; The Druze; An-Nusayriyah; Political Islam; Islamic Modernism; Jadidism; Alavism- Bektashism; the Islamic sects adopted by the Turks throughout history
