Course Goal / Objective
The aim of this course is to provide the students with the basic concepts of the world of plants, to provide an understanding of these concepts and issues.
Course Content
Biology and vitality; Lower branches of botanical science; Classification and naming of plants; Chemical structure of plants and inorganic compounds; Organic compounds (carbohydrates, fats, proteins, nucleic acids, secondary metabolites); General properties of prokaryotic and eukaryotic cells; Cell wall and its function; Cell membrane and function; Cell organelles; Cell division; Vegetative tissues (meristematic tissues, permanent tissues); Morphological and anatomical structure of plant organs; Growth-development and movement events in plants; Basic concepts related to plant genetics. Practice: General laboratory rules; Microscope and its use; Plant cells and plastids; Cytoplasmic movements; Ergastic materials; Mitosis-meiosis division; Plant tissues; Root, stem and leaf anatomy and morphology; Flower, fruit and seed morphology.
