Course Goal / Objective
The goals of this course are to define the special education; to explain the principals of special education; learn about the rights, laws and regulations concerning the special needs kids during early childhood; to recognize the needs and awareness of special needs kids; to get information about the reasons for disabilities; to categorize the special needs kids; to understand the individualized education programs for special needs kids; and to appreciate the roles of family and family involvement on the education of special needs kids.
Course Content
The history, goals and principals of special education; the reasons for disabilities (prenatal, during and post natal reasons); the hearing impaired; the partially-sighted; the physically handicapped; the mentally retarded; persons with learning disabilities; persons with speaking and language disabilities; children with adjustment problems; the role and involvement of family on special education; the inclusive education of special needs kids; the importance and goals of inclusive education; the inclusive education models.
