Course Goal / Objective
This course aims at providing an introduction to the field of linguistics and drawing attention to the relation of linguistics to other disciplines of research, and providing information about the functions of language and sub-disciplines of linguistics
Course Content
The contents of this course include the concept of linguistics and the basic concepts of linguistics; Saussure and structuralism,; Europe (Prague school of linguistics), and American structuralism, theories of speech-act, introduction to different fields such as semiotics in language research; approaches to important personalities guiding linguistic work (Martinet, Bloomfield, Harris, Hjelmslev, Chomsky, and so on.) and their studies; descriptive analysis of the pragmatic dimension a language as well as its descriptive use.
