Course Goal / Objective

To learn the basic working principles of endocrine system. To learn how the growth hormone and its peripheral effector, insulin-like growth factor changes in response to exercise. To learn the relationship between adrenal gland stress. To learn the effect of exercise on reproductive system

Course Content

1. Basic Principles and Mechanisms of Endocrinology 2. Growth hormone, its variants and growth hormone binding proteins 3. Resistance Exercise: Acute and Chronic Changes in Growth Hormone Concentrations 4. The Growth Hormone Response to Acute and Chronic Aerobic Exercise 5. Introduction to the Insulin-Like Growth Factor Signaling System 6. Exercise, Training and the GH / IGF Axis 7. Adrenal Gland: Implications for Exercise and Sports 8. Mid-term Exam 9. The Adrenal Medulla: Proenkephalins and Exercise Stress 10. Exercise and the Hypothalamic / Pituitary / Adrenal Axis 11. The Reproductive Axis 12. Influence of Energy Availability on Menstrual Cyclicity 13. Energy Balance and Exercise Associated Menstrual Cycle Disturbances 14. Regulation of Testicular Function 15.
