Course Goal / Objective

The student is expected to learn and implement patient safety measures.

Course Content

Definition, history and importance of patient safety; Medical errors and the role of nurses in prevention; Communique on the principles and procedures for ensuring and protecting patient and employee safety in health institutions and organizations; JCI patient safety objectives and implementation; Patient safety targets of health related organizations in the world; patient safety practices in health institutions in Turkey; Patient safety practices in the operating room; Evidence based practices in patient safety in the operating room; Health performance and quality guidelines; WHO s safe surgical checklist; Targeted applications in the operating room, accurate identification of patients, improvement of effective communication; Improving the safety of high risk drugs; Right side, correct application, ensure correct patient operation; Patient safety culture
