Course Goal / Objective
The attendant students are aimed to be aware of basic concepts and approaches about othering and discrimination, and to gain ability to use theese to base thier evaluation on the subject. during course, it is aimed that the participants understand the media's effect on the subject via evaluating the madia represantation of hate speech and hate crime, and discimination in recent history of Turkey and the World.Media has a strong ability to wield and to produce hate crime. Furthermore, within the main goals of the course, do the participants critically evaluate the othering representations within the popular culture and the various media contexts such as news, advertisements, Tv programmes, social media texts and photos.
Course Content
The concept of other and othering, limits of freedom of speech for hate speech and hate crime by case studies, othering and discirimination policies in media, construction of dominant ideology, legal regulation on hate crime, and ethical dimension of the subject in media will be discussed on examples.
