Course Goal / Objective

The aim of this course is to understand the general features of Ottoman Turkish in the 18th,19th and 20th centuries.

Course Content

In this course general characteristics of 18th century Turkish, general characteristics of 19th century Turkish, galatat books, Lugat-ı müvellide, language debates in Tanzimat period, general characteristics of 20th century Turkish: New Language Movement, the transition to the Latin alphabet from the Arabic alphabet are explained.
