Course Goal / Objective
General objective of the course: Have the students gain knowledge, skills, attitudes and understanding related to group counseling..
Course Content
Both theoretical and practical subjects about psychological group counseling take place in this course.The content course includes these topics: The general characteristics of group counseling. Comparing individual counseling with group counseling. Helping skills and basic techniques in group counseling. Stages of group counseling process. How to be a effective group leader The role of group counselor in different group stages. Facilitating skills of group process. Initiating and terminating skills in group counseling, Applying different techniques and skills used in group counseling, The procedure to be followed for the arrangement of the groups, The selection of the group members. Different theoretical approaches for group counseling. Characteristics of group counseling process. The types of groups: Encounter groups, psycho-educational groups, training groups, gestalt groups, psychodrama groups and self-help groups. These mentioned course subjects are taught theoretically, giving examples, with computer presentations, giving daily assignments, by dramatization, role playing, modeling, videos etc. with various applications.
