Course Goal / Objective

To teach the basic concepts and applications of landscape analysis, data collection methods and approaches.

Course Content

Analytical approaches to analyze landscapes as spatially and temporally variable environmental resources. Materials and tools that help to identify landscapes on qualitative and quantitative basis. Concepts of location (e.g., map projections, coordinate systems) and identifiers (e.g., land cover type, soil type, vegetation type, etc.). Digital and analog data types for analysis in environmental resource classification and landscape planning processes. Data collection methods for for landscape design and planning processes. Landscape inventory and documentation. Spatial data, GIS concept and thematic maps. Classification of land cover and landscape characterization. Data collection techniques for temporal analysis land cover.
