Course Goal / Objective

The aim is to explain the concept of democracy and the development of contemporary democracy, the democratization movements in the recent periods of the Ottoman Empire and developments in the field of Republic.

Course Content

What is Democracy, The Development of Democracy, Pluralist- Majoritarian Democratic Concepts, The Development of Democracy in the World, Democratic Developments in the Ottoman Empire in the 19th and 20th Centuries, Democratic Developments During The National Struggle Period , Efforts Made to Realise Democracy in the Early Years of the Turkish Republic

LO05 Students will understand the contributions of intellectuals to democratization in the Ottoman Empire
LO06 Students will get information about the First Constitutionalism, The Parliament and Constitutional Law.
LO07 Students will get some idea about the multi-party life during the Second Constitutionalism
LO08 Students will understand the contribution of the congresses during the National Struggle Period to develop the concept of national soverignty

LO10 Students will get information about the relationship between the power and oppositions in the First Assembly
