Course Goal / Objective

This course provides an overview of the current debates on globalization and the state. The main focus is on the changing relationship between state, society, and the individual in a globalizing world. Topics to be covered include globalization, the state, nationalism, political identity, citizenship and democracy.

Course Content

In this course, what globalization is, how it is defined, globalization processes and the basic theories to explain this processes will be examined. The course also discusses the basic threats of globalization to the the nation-state and the reflections of this development to the international relations, the anti-globalization social movements, current issues in the international arena such as global terrorism and global inequalities.
