Course Goal / Objective

The aim of this lecture is explain the basic and current knowledge about the importance of haploid plants and haploid plant obtention techniques in vegetables.

Course Content

The significance of haploidy, the paths of spontane haploid plant formation, the methods of obtaining haploid plants by in vivo and in vitro techniques (anther culture, ovule-ovarium culture, irridiated pollens etc.), dihaploidization of obtained haploid plants by chromosome doubling, direct and indirect methods for determining ploidy, the usage of dihaploid plants on plant breeding are the contents of this lesson. Besides, theoritical and practical informations concerning application of these methods on important vegetable species production will be given.
