Course Goal / Objective
To provide basic literature on the paradigm of ecology and design; To introduce ecological design principles; To introduce the contemporary approaches in ecological landscape design; To discuss the design solutions based on environmental performance in urban space.
Course Content
Introduction and basic concepts; Climate and bioclimate, bioclimatic comfort and emerging conditions, topography, soil and water conditions, vegetation cover; Ecological and energy efficient landscape design criteria: The concept of energy efficient site selection, energy efficient optimum orientation concept, design criteria and principles in external structural usage areas, surface properties and material efficient landscape design principles, water efficient landscape design principles, energy efficient site selection principles for green spaces, relations between green spaces and bioclimate, choice of plant species according to form, volume, color and texture; New concepts, theories and technologies in ecological design, sample applications.
