Course Goal / Objective

Learns the methods used in determination of changes that take place in landscapes and prediction of future changes.

Course Content

What is environmental monitoring. Simple, Survey, Proxy and Integrated monitoring approaches. Requirements for monitoring, components of monitoring. Landscape-level environmental indicators and monitoring: Spatial and time scales for monitoring. Frequency of monitoring. Change detection: satellite datasets for change detection; indices and other transformed data for change detection. Pre-processing of spatial data for change detection, geographical, geometrical and radiometric corrections. Bi-temporal and multi-temporal change detection methods. Pre- and post-classification change detection techniques. Pairwise comparisons and extracting change information from composite datasets. Change trends and future predictions. General outline of modeling and cellular automata.
