Course Goal / Objective

To give basic materials knowledge to textile engineering students, to teach the structural, mechanical and physical properties of materials. To provide an engineer with basic knowledge in material selection.

Course Content

Introduction to material knowledge. Atomic bonds. Mechanical properties of materials. Non-destructive material inspections.. Metallic materials and structural properties. Alloys. Phase diagrams and heat treatments. Polymer materials and their structural properties. Thermoplastic, thermoset and elastomers. Ceramic materials and structural properties. Introduction to composite materials. Physical properties of materials.
