Course Goal / Objective
Basic information and application areas about composite materials, Classification and general properties of composite materials, Introducing the production methods of composite materials, Determination of micro and macro mechanical properties, Introducing the design criteria, Optimizing structural and strength properties, The main objective is to inform students about the selection, processing and design processes of materials used in the automotive industry and to teach the applications of new material technologies in the automotive industry.
Course Content
Concept of Composite Materials and Definition of Composite Materials. Comparison of Composite Materials with Other Engineering Materials. Classification of Composite Materials. Analysis of Composite Materials according to the main material type (Metal-matrix, Polymer-matrix, Ceramic / Glass-matrix). Examination of Composite Materials by type of reinforcing element. Carbon composites. Mechanical Properties of Composite Materials. Industrial Applications of Composite Materials. Production Methods of Composite Materials. Composite Material Design. Main Materials, Reinforcement Elements and Interface. Composite Material Mechanics. Micromechanics of Composite Materials.
