Course Goal / Objective

Participant students will demonstrate growing familiarity with child assessment, key concepts, plus the language and methodology used in identifying and assessing children. They will demonstrate familiarity with professional writings in the field, through class discussion participation, group activities, and reflective reports.

Course Content

Participant students will study, practice, and evaluate various methods, approaches, tools and techniques of identifying and assessing children. Particularly observation, interview, using play and children's drawings, and portfolio that are appropriate for young children with diverse experiences. Factors that affect how assessments are conducted will be discussed. Participants will learn and evaluate effective assessments that are available in the field and when they should be utilized.
