Course Goal / Objective

To teach microalgae Spirulina platensis used as food supplements. culture, harvesting and drying. To provide information about commercial applications of S. platensis. Protein rich Spirulina can be used as a source of minerals and vitamins, green and blue-green pigments. To teach Spirulina culture used as biofertilizer, for cosmetics, nutraceuticals and pharmaceuticals.

Definition of Spirulina platensis, genereal biological features, cell structure, reproduction biology, algae nutrition, Spirulina nutritional value, Spirulina culture condition, nutrient medium, Spirulina culture in the ponds, Spirulina culture in photobioreactors, harvesting, drying methods of microalgae, storage of dry algae, commercial applications of Spirulina
