Course Goal / Objective

To provide students with knowledge and competence abouth basic characteristics of microorganisms, microorganism-host relationships and immunity system, antimicrobial drugs and resistance mechanisms.

Course Content

Includes the topics related to basic microbiology addressing microorganisms - antimicrobial drugs - host relationships.

LO01 Lists the tools-equipment frequently used in microbiology laboratory.
LO02 Observes in the light microscope using the immersion lens.
LO03 Lists differential media commonly used in bacterial identification together with their intended use.
LO04 Examines the culture of bacteria in blood agar and tells the type of hemolysis.
LO05 By using the prepared inoculum, inoculates on agar plate by using streak plate technique in accordance with aseptic technique.
LO06 Prepares the fixated slide for staining by using fresh bacterial culture.
LO07 Tells the gram reaction of a bacteria stained with gram staining.
LO08 Describes molds stained with lactophenol cotton blue by observing them in the light microscope.
LO09 Describes the trophozoid form of the frequently encountered blood and tissue protozoa by observing them in the light microscope.
LO10 Describes the frequently encountered helminth eggs by observing them in the light microscope.
LO11 Explains the purpose of using IMVIC tests.
LO12 Tells the culture technique used in disc diffusion method.
LO13 Shows the MIC value in the macrodilution method example.
LO14 Determines the slide stained with acido-resistant staining method and tells the intended use of the method.
LO15 Lists frequently used serological tests in microbiology laboratory.
