Course Goal / Objective
To introduce basic soil chemical components and their characteristics, to provide information and knowledge about the relationships between these characteristics and soil fertility, especially soil nutrients within a chemical perspective
Course Content
Elemental composition of earth crust, primary and secondary minerals, soil-forming factors-pedogenic regimes. Soil-forming reactions carbonate balance-calcite containing systems. Ion exchange, cation exchange capacity, ion distribution, base saturation. Nitrogen, phosphorus, potassium and microelement balances. Soil organic matter - humic and fulvic fractions. Structures, surface characteristics and nutrient adsorption functions of soil colloids.
