Course Goal / Objective
To enable them to evaluate the photographic narrative in technical, aesthetic, social, historical and ideological aspects by recognizing the different usage areas of photography.
Course Content

| 9 | Document Photography: The importance of photography in the formation of Historical Visual Memory is discussed within the framework of the concept of Document Photography. In this context, examples of documentary photographers working institutionally and independently in the first half of the 20th century and the first periods of the second half are included. | ||
| 10 | Portrait Photography: The concept of Portrait Photography will be discussed in the light of the artistic origins of the concept. The ontological origins nurtured by the classic portrait style in the photograph are exemplified by the traces of the tradition in Classical, Renaissance, Rococo, Baroque, Romantic, Neo-Classical and modern art movements. Applications related to content and form such as the idealization of the subject in portrait photography, the use of space, and the function of lighting are discussed on examples. | ||
| 11 | Alternative Approaches: With the 1970s, photography applications diversified in terms of subject and expression styles are conveyed. The effects of the social movements experienced at the end of the 60's and the radical changes in the diverse social and cultural field on photography are discussed. How class, race and gender discussions are expressed in a photographic sense is interpreted through discussions. | ||
| 12 | Agency Photography: The concept of Agency Photography, which grew in parallel with the need for visual material in print media in the second half of the 20th century, is being discussed. The working areas of agencies operating on an institutional or office basis are described with examples. The importance of agency photography is discussed in the Magnum agency, one of the most important agencies of the age. | ||
| 13 | Turkey Photo: Contemporary fed by a general framework in which the title of the photo is transferred to the universal practice in Turkey and local trends. It is discussed how the works of contemporary Turkish photographers are affected by the changes in social and cultural fields and how this process is reflected in their works. | ||
