Course Goal / Objective

The aim of course is to look at the emergence of the cinema industry in Turkey from the historical perspective and develop political, cultural and economic point of view. In addition to all the components of the industry, a perspective for the audience experience and movie theaters will also be included.

Course Content

In this course, the history of Turkish cinema will be approached from a chronological perspective, while developing a discourse on director and films. Developments from different eras also be studied with the cinematic context. Chosen films will be watched and discussed with the students.

LO02 to establish a link between the changes in the field of cinema and political, economic, social, legal and cultural developments.
LO03 to criticize traditional and chronological approaches while analyzing the style and aesthetic experiments of the directors in Turkish cinema.
LO04 to examine the distribution and exhibition stages in addition to film production practices, and the place and effects of cinema in social life with a holistic practice.
LO05 to approach to films with a new perspective in terms of form and content by analyzing the role of Turkish cinema in forming national identity.
LO06 to gain the ability to compare with the developments in the world cinema by learning the production, distribution and exhibition practices in Turkish cinema.
