Course Goal / Objective

Gaining knowledge on clothing and fashion by studying the history and the evolution of clothes

Course Content

A visual history of fashion from ancient to the present with particular emphasis on recent history from the mid-19th through the early 21st centuries. Students discuss and analyze the historical periods and their influence on contemporary fashion. Non-western approaches to apparel art and design, including Turkish, Japan, African and Indian arts are studied.

LO04 From the 1870s on, the beginning of haute couture fashion and the reasons for the beginning of fashion concept are taught.
