Course Goal / Objective

The aim of this course is raising awareness about how children acquire their mother tongue and how we make use of information on first language acquisition in teaching a second language.

Course Content

the content of this course covers general principles of first and second language acquisition. the course includes two section. In the first section, theories on which first language acquisition is based are going to be discussed. Additionally, acquisition of phonology and morphology will be discused with examples from different languages. In the second part, the course covers comparison and contrast of first and second language acquisition, the process of second language acquisition.

LO05 Students will be able to define and discuss individual differences in second language acquisition and provide implications on the situations when these differences hinder learning.
