Course Goal / Objective

Starting from the prenatal period until the end of the age of 18, it is to monitor and produce new information and technology in order to protect and improve the physical, mental and social well-being of children and adolescents and to cure their common diseases, and to train physicians who can use them in line with the needs and expectations of the society.

Course Content

Pediatric history taking and basic examination training and practical application, preparation of inpatient file in the service, bedside training, observing examination and history taking in pediatric outpatient clinics, monitoring normal growth and development in childhood starting from the neonatal period until the age of 18, and maintaining the health status of children. Common diseases and differential diagnoses are taught with both theoretical and practical courses and emergency treatment approaches are given.

LO03 3. Make a good examination of the child according to his/her stages (makes child-specific evaluations apart from routine head-neck, respiratory, cardiovascular, gastrointestinal system and neurological examinations)

LO05 5. Evaluates ECG and X-rays that are essential for pediatrics
LO06 6. Knows the diagnosis and treatment approach of common pediatric diseases in the society, can arrange the fluid-electrolyte treatment, list priorities and importance, explain preventive medicine in childhood with examples.
LO07 . Presents the patient for whom she is responsible, discusses with the team, evaluates the diseases and emergency treatments, approaches the problem and writes an epicrisis.
LO08 8. Lists the doses, effects and side effects of frequently used drugs according to age and explains why they are used.
LO09 9. Knows the criteria and conditions of referral to the hospital
LO10 10. Knows the ethical and legal aspects of diagnosis and treatment procedures and evaluates the economic burden for the country.
LO11 11. Establishes sensitive and effective communication with patients and their relatives, gains the ability to inform the family, approaches the child and family holistically, sensitively and respectfully, and works in harmony with colleagues and health personnel.
