Course Goal

In defining environmental goals and implementing policies, the essential economic conditions are scarcity and choice. The aim of this course is to understand the role of economy in environmental issues and especially in the formation of environmental policies. The course also aims to emphasize the applications of air, water, land use and natural environment problems.

Course Content

In this course, the importance of the elements that threaten nature and the environment will be discussed. Externalities and market crashes will be discussed. Various legal and market-based approaches to environmental problems will be compared and evaluated using economic analysis tools. Air and water pollution problems will be analyzed. Carbon taxes, pollution quotas and permits, and other environmental regulatory instruments will be reviewed.
