Course Goal

The aim of this course is to provide the students with an overview of how livestock nutrition and dietary compositions modulate the expression of livestock genes. The students will acquire knowledge of the effect of nutrients on production and metabolic diseases through proteome, metabolome or transcriptomics alterations and the resulting changes in physiology.

Course Content

The main subjects of the course are description of nutrigenomics and relationship between nutrition and genome, epigenetic mechanisms, the impact of dietary components on genome functioning in terms of gene expression patterns and epigenetic modifications, the effects of diet on changes in gene expression or regulatory processes that may be associated with various biological processes related with livestock production and health, omics-technologies and bioinformatics in nutrition and physiology in livestock research.

Course Precondition

Students who will take this course must first take general animal nutrition and ruminant feeding courses during the undergraduate period or get their approval by the instructor.
