Course Goal / Objective

The aim of the course is to make the students understand the importance of vehicle aerodynamics, to emphasize the effect of the arero resistance coefficient on engine performance and fuel consumption, and to provide information about the measurements made in the wind tunnel.

Course Content

Fundamental formulas in fluid mechanics and aerodynamics problems. Non-viscous and viscous centers. Applications in wind tunnels and outer hulls. Computer compatible aerodynamic design. It is numerical and non-corrosive. Streamlined designs for drag. Engine cooling aerodynamics. aerodynamic noise.

LO01 Comprehend the Standard Atmospheric variables and their values ​​at sea level and calculate atmospheric conditions using Ideal gas laws.
LO02 Will be able to calculate the changes with altitude and temperature, by explaining the relationships between the gauge, calibrated, equivalent and real air speeds, respectively.
LO03 With the use of different wing shapes and carrying-increasing apparatus; examines the variation of lift, drag and pitching moment curves with angle of attack. Explain the characteristics of the boundary layer region resulting from changes in airfoil geometry and friction.
LO04 It examines the effects of velocity, density, area and lift coefficient on lift and drag. Calculates stall speed and changes in stall speed caused by variables such as weight load factor, altitude and lift coefficient.
LO05 Discusses how wing planform characteristics (wing area, wing span, average aerodynamic velocity, span ratio, taper ratio etc.) affect lift and aircraft performance.
LO06 Using power, thrust and drag-speed curves, it calculates maximum range, endurance speeds and climb rates, and understands the effects of wind and fuel flow.
